BlancoAcademic Director\, Center for International Higher Education\, Boston College \n\n\n\nDr. Gerardo Blanco is associate professor of Higher Education\, and academic director of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College. He is also a Fulbright Specialist\, and advisor for programs and global initiatives at the American Council on Education. His research explores the intersections of quality and internationalization in higher education. An interdisciplinary scholar\, his research has been published in top international journals in the fields of Higher Education and Comparative Education. \n\n\n\nGerardo has held leadership roles in the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES)\, and the Association for the Study of Higher Education’s Council for International Higher Education and serves on several advisory and editorial boards. In 2017\, he received the “Best Research Article Award” from the Comparative & International Education Society’s Higher Education SIG. In 2014 and 2020\, his work received honorable mentions from the same organization. Dr. Blanco is the author (with Catherine Marshall and Gretchen B. Rossman) of Designing Qualitative Research 7th edition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrancois GreyProfessor\, Information Science Institute\, University of Geneva \n\n\n\nFrancois Grey is a physicist with a background in nanotechnology\, and he has a passion for citizen science. He also has extensive experience in science management\, teaching and communication in various countries including the United States\, China\, Japan\, Germany\, Denmark\, and Switzerland. Over the past decade\, he has managed the development of a series of online citizen science projects in a wide range of research fields\, beginning with the launch of LHC@home in 2004 while he was a manager at CERN. \n\n\n\nIn 2009\, Prof. Grey established a partnership for citizen science between CERN\, the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)\, and the University of Geneva\, which is now known as Citizen Cyberlab. As an invited professor at the Centre Universitaire d’Informatique (CUI) of the University of Geneva since 2014\, he coordinates Citizen Cyberlab\, manages the development of technologies for crowdsourced research\, explores the broader impact of citizen science on society\, and promotes public participation in science through hands-on events. He also teaches courses on Open Science and Citizen Science at both the bachelor’s and master’s level. \n\n\n\nSince 2016\, he has been serving as the Director of the Geneva Tsinghua Initiative\, a comprehensive education programme for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. From 2016 to 2018\, he served as the Director of Digital Strategy for the University of Geneva. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWANG QiyunAssociate Professor (Tenured)\, Learning Sciences and Assessment Academic Group\, National Institute of Education (NIE)\, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)\, Singapore \n\n\n\nDr. Wang Qiyun is a tenured Associate Professor of the Academic Group of Learning Science and Assessment (LSA). He obtained his PhD from the University of Twente\, the Netherlands in 2001\, and Master’s and Bachelor degrees at East China Normal University\, Shanghai. He is now the Programme Leader of PhD and Master by Research.His research areas include blended learning\, educational design-based research\, and technology-enhanced learning environment design. He has been actively involved in many educational research projects\, and currently is a PI of the funded research project “Promoting and Monitoring the Cognitive Engagement of Online Students in the Blended Synchronous Learning Environment (2021-2024).He has published more than 30 research articles in SSCI-indexed journals and edited 4 academic books and supervised 2 PhD/EdD graduates. He is the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Social Media and Interactive Learning Environments and an Associate Editor of International Journal of Continuing Engineering and Life-Long Learning. He is also serving as an editorial board member and a reviewer of several international journals\, and a guest editor for more than 10 special issues in international journals. He has been a conference executive chair and cub-conference chair of many international conferences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nXU LupingAssociate professor\, Vice Dean of Xingjian College\, Tsinghua University \n\n\n\nProf. Luping Xu is the vice dean of Xingjian College and the deputy director of the Center for Nano and Micro Mechanics (CNMM) of Tsinghua University. Prof. Xu received his B.Sc. in physics and Ph.D. in systems biology from Peking University. After Post-Doc research at the Institut National de la Santé Et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM) and Université Paris Descartes\, France\, he joined the school of aerospace engineering of Tsinghua University as a faculty member in 2012. The major research interests of Prof. Xu is to study the emergence and dynamics of innovation in biological\, physical\, informational and social systems using interdisciplinary and open science methods. Prof. Xu is deeply motivated in exploring new frontier of education and has contributed to a series of education innovation programs in Tsinghua University\, including the reform of Tsien’s Excellence in Engineering Program (TEEP\, 2012)\, the construction of Open Wisdom Lab (OWL\,2012) and the initiation of Franco-Chinese Open FIESTA program (2015). He is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education. As Academic Lead for the FutureLearn company\, he led the design of its social learning approach. He provides consultancy for institutions worldwide including UNESCO\, UNICEF\, universities and companies. He founded the Innovating Pedagogy report series and is the author of over 300 papers in the areas of educational technology\, learning sciences\, science education\, human-centred design of personal technologies\, artificial intelligence and cognitive science. His recent books are Practical Pedagogy: 40 New Ways to Teach and Learn and Story Machines: How Computers Have Become Creative Writers both published by Routledge\, and An Introduction to Narrative Generators\, published by Oxford University Press. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDanny LiuAssociate Professor\, Educational Innovation TeamOffice of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor\, University of Sydney \n\n\n\nDanny is a molecular biologist by training\, programmer by night\, researcher and academic developer by day\, and educator at heart. A multiple international and national teaching award winner\, he works at the confluence of learning analytics\, student engagement\, educational technology\, and professional development and leadership. He is an Associate Professor in the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Portfolio at the University of Sydney\, where he leads staff across the institution in educational innovation\, blended and online teaching\, and the effective use of learning analytics and artificial intelligence to improve student learning and experience. He co-chairs the University’s AI in Education working group. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHU XiaoyongExecutive Vice Dean of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence in Education andExecutive Vice Dean of the School of Information Technology in Education\, South China Normal University \n\n\n\nProfessor Hu also holds the position of Deputy Dean at the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Basic Education and Informatization. He also serves as the Secretary-General of the Teaching and Instruction Committee of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Technology Professional Teaching Steering Committee\, Vice Chairman of the Information Technology Education Special Committee of the Chinese Society of Education\, member of the Expert Group for the Research on Regulatory Policies for Extracurricular Training Institutions in China\, expert for the Ministry of Education’s Industry-University Cooperation Collaborative Education Program and Virtual Teaching Research Room Construction Project\, as well as an expert on the Expert Advisory Committee for Education Digitization in Guangdong Province\, among other positions. His research focuses on theories and policies of educational informatization\, educational artificial intelligence\, and innovation in information technology teaching. He has led projects such as the National Social Science Fund of China project “Teacher Portraits and Applications in the Perspective of Artificial Intelligence\,” the Ministry of Education’s Virtual Teaching Research Room for “Research on Intelligent Education Literacy of Teachers\,” and the national-level online teacher education MOOC on “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Education.” He has received over 10 national-level awards for basic education teaching achievements and provincial-level awards for educational research achievements and has published over 100 papers and books. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMA YuchunAssociate Professor and Director of Teaching AffairsDepartment of Computer Science and Technology\, Tsinghua University \n\n\n\nShe primarily engages in fundamental algorithm research in the field of integrated circuit design automation\, focusing on areas such as layout planning algorithms\, three-dimensional chip planning and design\, layout planning and design for microprocessor performance optimization\, as well as planning and design for power and delay optimization. She conducted a one-year research visit at the University of California\, Los Angeles\, where she explored three-dimensional chip layout planning and microprocessor system layout planning\, and actively participated in the development of the 3D-MEVA system. In recent years\, she has achieved a series of research accomplishments in the domain of layout planning. She has published over 40 papers (including 9 SCI-indexed and 34 EI-indexed)\, encompassing renowned international academic journals such as IEEE Trans. on CAD\, ACM Trans. on DAES\, and ACM Journal on ETC\, as well as over 10 papers published in top international conferences in the field of design automation (DAC\, ISPD\, ICCAD\, etc.). She has received the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on ASIC 2001 and has been nominated for the Best Paper Award at ASPDAC 2010. DESCRIPTION:In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming various aspects of society\, it is crucial for higher education to stay at the forefront of these changes. In 2023\, the dialogue centered around the theme “Navigating the AI-Driven Digital Transformation of Higher Education\,” bringing together 33 speakers from 14 countries for a series of 9 global dialogues. Through the previous events\, we recognized the AI’s vast yet largely untapped potential in empowering and transforming higher education through improving personalized learning\, enabling efficient management\, enhancing research capabilities\, and facilitating international cooperation. Moreover\, AI can assist higher education institutions in fulfilling their social responsibilities and contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). \n\n\n\nOED 2024 will follow the footprints from previous themes in depth and continue diving into AI-Led Transformation in Higher Education. Our goal is to equip educators and administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the digital transformation driven by AI\, ultimately benefiting learners and society as a whole. In this role\, she ensures the learning and teaching environment is supported by the most advanced tools and technologies. She has been part of the university since 1993 and also serves as an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering. Her previous roles include Assistant Dean of Engineering from 2004 to 2008 and Associate Dean from 2008 to 2013. \n\n\n\nA recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship\, Proadpran completed her doctoral degree at Claremont Graduate University\, specializing in speech technology\, particularly speech synthesis and recognition in Thai. She co-founded the Spoken Language System Research Group in 2004 and launched the Assistive Technology Research Group in 2006. \n\n\n\nProadpran was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at MIT and Stanford University in 2013 and 2014\, respectively. Since 2019\, her research interests have expanded to include AI applications in medicine and educational technology. \n\n\n\nHongyi Wen \n\n\n\nHongyi Wen is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at NYU Shanghai. He received his BEng in Computer Science from Tsinghua University. He holds a PhD in Information Science from Cornell University. His research focuses on Recommender Systems\, HCI and personalization in real-world applications. His work has been recognized by WWW\, RecSys\, WSDM\, CHI\, etc. Prof. Wen’s current research interest is to develop human-centered AI for improving the long-term values of personalizations\, including applications such as AI for Education and Health. \n\n\n\nFrancesca Purcell \n\n\n\nFrancesca Purcell is a senior lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). Prior to her arrival at HGSE\, Purcell was the program director for education and the development of knowledge at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences overseeing educational policy and research activity including a multi-year\, national study with leaders in education\, business\, and government entitled The Future of Undergraduate Education\, The Future of America. She formerly served as provost/chief academic officer at Massachusetts Bay Community College providing leadership across three campuses enrolling over 8\,000 students. Purcell also served as associate commissioner for Academic and P-16 Policy for the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education where she engineered public policy on college completion\, student transfer\, developmental education\, and performance-based student financial aid and oversaw the review of new academic programs and newly-established colleges and universities. She is the recipient of the Governor’s Commonwealth Citation for Outstanding Performance in recognition of her contributions to public higher education. Purcell has held adjunct faculty positions at Boston College\, Suffolk University\, and Roxbury Community College and has co-authored works on international women’s colleges and universities. She has consulted for the World Bank and the Woodrow Wilson Foundation National Fellowship Foundation. In addition\, Mutlu works with Unesco’s international expert group on ICT in education\, is on the working group of UCL’s Grand Challenges on Transformative Technologies\, is an editor of the British Journal of Educational Technology\, and an associate editor of the International Journal of Child-Computer Interaction. \n\n\n\nJiao Jianli \n\n\n\nDr. JIAO Jianli is Professor of Educational Technology and Director of the Future Education Research Center (FERC) at the School of Information Technology in Education (SITE)\, South China Normal University (SCNU)\, Guangzhou\, China.Dr. Jiao is a pioneer in teaching and learning with educational technologies in mainland China. He has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in educational technologies\, instructional system design\, and Social Networking System in Education\, and facilitated professional development programs for in-service teachers and faculty. \n\n\n\nDr. Jiao is one of the most highly cited scholars in Mainland China in the field of education\, especially in the field of educational technology. He listed as one of top 50 researchers (ranked No.20) by the National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) according to publication citation and reference index database of CNKI. He has extensive experience in working with in-service K-12 teachers in formal and informal learning contexts. \n\n\n\nShang Xuequn \n\n\n\nShang Xuequn\, professor of Northwestern Polytechnical University\, national leading talent CJ scholar\, currently Dean of School of Computer Science\, Northwestern Polytechnical University. In 2005\, he received her doctorate from Germany and returned to China in November of the same year as the introduced talents for Western University of Technology. From 2009 to 2010\, she worked as a visiting scholar in the research group led by Professor Zaki Mohammed\, a famous data mining expert in the Department of Computer Science of RPI in the United States. From 2013 to 2017\, she went to Yale University and UCLA for several short-term visits. She has been engaged in big data management and analysis research and system development for a long time\, and her main research fields are data mining\, machine learning\, big data\, bioinformatics\, etc. She is also the leader of Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Innovation team\, Deputy director of the Key Laboratory of Big Data Storage and Management\, Deputy director of the Information System Special Committee of China Computer Society\, member of the China Artificial Intelligence Education Association\, vice chairman of Shaanxi Provincial Computer Society\, vice chairman of Shaanxi Provincial Computer Education Society\, editorial board member of several international journals and Chairman and Program member of the International Academic Conference. As the project leader\, she has presided over a number of key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation\, surface projects of the National Natural Science Foundation\, national key research and development plans\, etc.\, and participated in the 973 project and major international cooperation projects of the National Natural Science Foundation as the main completion person. Lohse is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Chair of “Higher education in the context of digital change and diversity” at Technical University Berlin\, Germany. \n\n\n\nShe holds a PhD in Educational Governance from the Hertie School — the University of Governance in Berlin and an MA in International Education from New York University. Her dissertation\, „Higher Education in an Age of Disruption“ was recently published by Springer Palgrave Macmillan. \n\n\n\nNguyen Dang Dao \n\n\n\nNguyen Dang Dao is a Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University.  He is urbanist taking the lead in creating sustainable futures for Asian cities. Dao graduated with an award for academic excellence from Yenching Academy\, Peking University. After serving as the head of the ASEAN Delegation to the G20 Youth Summit and co-lead of the UNESCO Action Plan for Meaningful Youth Engagement\, he founded the Young Urbanists in Southeast Asia to foster a better future for ASEAN cities. Dao has working experience for the United Nations Human Settlement Program\, Vietnamese government\, Cornell University\, and Oxford University.  \n\n\n\nRodrigo Cardoso-González \n\n\n\nRodrigo Cardoso-González is a sociologist and PhD candidate in Political and Social Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). His research focuses on the relationship between ICTs and society\, particularly on how young people use technology and perceive digital risks in their daily lives. His book\, Making of a Democratic Intellectual Tradition in India\, was published in 2019. He has authored over 41 articles in esteemed international and national journals including Scopus Indexed and UGC CARE listed journals. In 2025\, his co-authored book Federal Thought\, is set to be published as it is signed by Routledge. He edited Challenges to Democracy in South Asia (2021) and has co-edited three additional books. A regular contributor to major English dailies\, Dr. Karmakar has participated in international conferences in Germany\, Italy\, and Bangladesh. He is a life member of several academic associations and frequently appears in electronic media as a political analyst. \n\n\n\nJing QIAN\, Ph.D. \n\n\n\nHongyi Wen is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at NYU Shanghai. He received his BEng in Computer Science from Tsinghua University. He holds a PhD in Information Science from Cornell University. His research focuses on Recommender Systems\, HCI and personalization in real-world applications. His work has been recognized by WWW\, RecSys\, WSDM\, CHI\, etc. Prof. Wen’s current research interest is to develop human-centered AI for improving the long-term values of personalizations\, including applications such as AI for Education and Health. \n\n\n\nDhawal Shah  \n\n\n\nFounder and CEO of Class Centra  \n\n\n\nDhawal developed a passion for education while pursuing his Master’s in Computer Science at Georgia Tech. With the rise of free online courses from top universities\, he created a one-page website to curate these offerings. That site\, Class Central\, is now the leading destination for finding online courses and MOOCs\, as well as understanding trends in online education. Since 2011\, more than 80 million learners have used Class Central to decide which online courses to take. Dhawal has completed over a dozen MOOCs and has written 200 articles on online education\, read by millions of people every year. He joined Nanyang Technological University in 2011 as a Physics lecturer\, having previously taught at Hwa Chong Junior College from 1998 to 2003. Dr. Ho completed his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Toronto in 2009 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois and NUS. \n\n\n\nPassionate about education\, Dr. Ho has developed activities to enhance students’ thinking skills and bridge textbook knowledge with real-world applications. In 2014\, he helped establish the “Making and Tinkering” course\, where students are free to design and construct almost any technological prototype. The course has produced over 140 student projects. Dr. Ho has received numerous teaching awards\, including the Nanyang Education Award (Gold) in 2018. He became Principal Lecturer that same year and has held the title of Provost’s Chair in Physics since 2019. \n\n\n\nDavid Lazaro \n\n\n\nDavid is the Director of Edraak\, a Jordanian online learning platform featuring over 300 courses and over 9 million registered users in the Middle East & North Africa region. David has led design\, development and implementation of projects featuring online and hybrid learning for youth and government partners in the MENA region since 2011\, supporting national objectives in skills development\, youth empowerment and workforce mobilization of youth\, women and refugees. \n\n\n\nProf. Hew Timothy K. F.   \n\n\n\nProfessor Timothy HEW is a Full Professor of Education at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He initially trained as a Systems Engineer\, earning a bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Before transitioning to the field of education\, he worked for four years at Sony Systems Design International (Singapore). Professor HEW furthered his education with a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Singapore\, followed by a PhD in Instructional Systems Technology from the USA. His research primarily focuses on optimizing student engagement in online activities\, with a special emphasis on self-regulation and the use of conversational agents. Throughout his career\, Professor HEW has received more than 50 types of recognitions and awards.
